Commercial cookery is an integral part of the hospitality industry and offers a wide variety of career options. Both the Perth and Australian Institutes provide training in the principles and skills of commercial food preparation. The course prepares students to apply a broad range of competencies within a varied work context. Students will do the practical units in a commercial kitchen. Students will also gain extensive work experience, as well as possible paid industry placement in the food industry, including hotels, motels, restaurants, casinos, clubs and cafés, food processing companies, hospitals and catering companies.

Chef’s Uniform
Students are required to purchase a chef’s uniform and a full set of chef’s knives.
The total cost will be approximately AU$650 and is payable to either Perth Institute or Australian Institute directly.

For students interested in becoming chefs, this course involves extensive practical food preparation, cooking and presentation skills enabling students to take direct employment in leading hotel and restaurant kitchens.
